At the core of the Meals on Wheels service is a nutritious meal, companionship and a watchful eye on the health and safety of our seniors and the disabled. For those who have trouble getting around, we bring the service to you. For those who can still venture out into their communities, we serve in gathering places, such as senior centers and community facilities like, CASA KITCHEN CAFE LOCATED AT 9360 MANZANITA CIRCLE, Prescott Valley. Arizona
Depending on individual circumstances, meals may be provided along a sliding fee scale, from no cost to full price. However, it is important to note that in many areas of the country, the need for meals far exceeds the resources available to provide them, leading to wait lists and/or being turned away.
Meals on Wheels focuses on caring for individuals whose diminished mobility (disabled or elderly) makes it hard to shop for food, prepare meals or socialize with others. People who are mobile enough to join others for meals in a group setting where people congregate, like senior centers and cafes, are encouraged to do so; while others less mobile may qualify for home delivery.
The public-private partnership supporting the Meals on Wheels movement is one of the most effective models in America. It enables seniors and the disabled to remain more healthy and independent in their own homes, where they want to be, avoiding far more costly healthcare alternatives, such as unnecessary trips to the emergency room, hospitalizations and nursing home placements. In turn, everyone benefits from billions of dollars in taxpayer savings.
Over the coming years, the number of seniors and disabled in our country will grow exponentially. We have the opportunity to leverage the existing Meals on Wheels infrastructure as the foundational social solution to the challenges that that growth will bring.
Casa/Meals on Wheels is an important non-profit organization that has benefited many of the area's elderly and all home-bound people since 2009. Monday through Friday, seniors and disabled individuals can receive a daily meal that is approved by a licensed nutritionist. Depending on the program, meals are delivered by volunteers. In addition to providing nutrition to sustain the health of a person, a meal delivery by a Meals on Wheels volunteer also serves as a safety check and a source of companionship for the client.
